About
About our foodbank
We're here to support you
Newquay Foodbank is an independent charity that supports people facing food poverty and helps them to regain their independence.
We began in 2011, and have been providing food and other essential items to address immediate needs ever since.
But we don’t simply hand out food! We also offer wellbeing and financial guidance through our Support Coaches and in collaboration with other organisations.
“We offer a non-judgmental opportunity to help you when most needed. Whatever your background, whatever your experience, whatever your story, we are here to help you. Everyone is welcome at Newquay Foodbank.” CEO, Zoe Nixon.
We support people to get back on their feet, in their own time. Our community membership store enables people to access an affordable and dignified shopping experience too, all backed by our wraparound care where needed.
Our charity also covers a much wider geographical location than our name suggests.
We are here to help people from Perranporth, up towards St Eval and across to Clay Country.
Our foodbank is aligned to Trussell’s network of foodbanks, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in local communities across the UK. To find out more about the work of Trussell, and how they support foodbanks, visit www.trussell.org.uk.
How our foodbanks works
FOOD DONATIONS
Schools, churches, businesses, organisations such as Beauty Banks, and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food and essential personal care items to us. We have food donation bins in supermarkets and businesses for the public to donate to. People can also drop donations to any of our foodbank sessions.
Our team of volunteers sort donations, checking they are in date before distributing them across our three sites, to make sure we are ready to welcome visitors.
FINANCIAL DONATIONS
Financial donations are also received from local businesses, grant bodies and individuals, enabling us to buy food and keep the charity’s doors open.
Our food donations alone can’t match the demand we currently face.
In addition, we partner with local and national organisations, such as Fareshare (now Felix) who provide additional food and non food items that we purchase.
HOW WE HELP PEOPLE
We work with a wide range of care professionals such as schools, Local Authority, housing, social workers and police. They refer people in crisis to us and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Individuals can also contact the foodbank directly, via our Support Coaches, to access support and a voucher.
VISITORS RECEIVE FOOD
When someone has been issued with a voucher they can visit one of our foodbank sessions where it can be redeemed for three days’ emergency food. Our friendly volunteers are on hand to welcome visitors, offer a warm drink, and a chat. Our visitors can also access our support coach network for tailored support.
