About our foodbank
We're here to support YOU
Newquay Foodbank was founded in 2011 by the Community, to support the Community – with one aim, to help those who need us back to financial independence.
Our aim is achieved by providing food and other essential items to address the immediate need, then working with a wide variety of agencies to get access to support plans to get people back on their feet.
Whatever your background, what ever your employment or housing status, we are here to support you in your individual situation.
Our foodbank is part of Trussell’s network of foodbanks, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in our local communities, as well as across the UK. To find out more about the work of Trussell, and how they support foodbanks, visit www.trussell.org.uk.
How our foodbanks works
FOOD AND MONEY ARE DONATED
Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to us. We have food donation bins in supermarkets and businesses, for the public to donate to.
In addition, we partner with local and national organisations, such as Fareshare and Beauty Banks, who provide additional food and non food items.
Financial donations are also received by local businesses, grant bodies and individuals, enabling us to buy food, as our food donations alone can’t match the demand we currently face.
DONATIONS ARE SORTED AND STORED
Our team of volunteers sort donations, checking they are in date before distributing them across our three sites, to make sure we are ready to welcome visitors.
IDENTIFY PEOPLE IN NEED
We partner with a wide range of care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers and police to identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher, so that they can access emergency food and support. Individuals can also contact the foodbank directly, via our Signposting team, to access support and a voucher.
VISITORS RECEIVE FOOD
Foodbank visitors bring their voucher to one of our foodbank sessions where it can be redeemed for three days’ emergency food. Our friendly volunteers are on hand to welcome visitors, offer a warm drink and where possible, will signpost you onwards to the best support for your individual situation.
