Newquay Foodbank has in recent months been struggling to cope in its existing premises in St Michaels church Newquay due to a significant increase in the number of people needing its services, driven in part by the pandemic.
Recognising that need is sadly unlikely to reduce any time soon the Foodbank applied to the Trussell Trust for funding to make alterations to the church basement to create larger and bespoke premises. The Foodbank has just learned their application has been successful and is delighted that it will be able to move to larger premises and so keep up with the current increase in demand.
Chair of the Foodbank, Rev Clare Anderson said “it was wonderful to have the foodbank work recognised” and she is looking forward to the improved premises which will improve the service customers of the foodbank receive. She also said this would not be possible without the support of the Trussell Trust who have agreed to fund 50% of the overall cost. The Foodbank is also grateful to the Rev Lee and St Michael’s Church who have welcomed the Foodbank have agreed to make the larger premises available and cover the rest of the costs.
Clare also commented that to provide the increased service meant an increased need for volunteer helpers.
