Meet Liam

Our volunteers play a vital part in helping us to fight the food crisis in Newquay.

Meet Liam, one of our fantastic volunteers at Newquay Foodbank and hear all about his role, why he started volunteering and the difference he is making.

What is your current role at Newquay Foodbank?

I am one of the supermarket donations collector’s, bringing foodstuffs to the main store. I also help keep the store organised, rotate ambient food stuff in order to use older in date stock wherever possible and assemble the weekly stock requests in for collection by session centre volunteer drivers.

How long have you been volunteering with the Foodbank?

I started volunteering for the Foodbank during the first Covid lockdown.

Why did you get involved with the Foodbank?

I had previously travelled extensively for work and found suddenly being confined to working from home a challenge. Volunteering for the Foodbank was a great way to get out of the house and do something worthwhile.

What is your favourite part of your role?

My Foodbank volunteering is largely on my own at the store. I enjoy my small role in the running of the Foodbank machine, the favourite part being the thought that a few hours of my time each week is making a difference to those who need a little help.

By volunteering with Newquay Foodbank I’ve made a difference by…

My role sits in the background but I am aware that I make a difference by being part of the supply chain that helps make a variety of foodstuffs available to those that need them.

I would recommend volunteering with Newquay Foodbank because…

I would urge anyone with some spare time to consider volunteering for the Foodbank or any other body providing help to others. I am fortunate in life, not everyone is. Volunteering is simply another word for helping others, why wouldn’t I want to do that!
